Which TET do you need?

A Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) makes you eligible to be appointed as a teacher for classes 1 to 8; it is not a job by itself. Teacher vacancies are filled through a separate recruitment, for which a TET pass is required.

Paper I is for classes 1 to 5 and Paper II for classes 6 to 8. To teach both levels, pass both papers.

CTET, held by CBSE, counts for central government schools such as Kendriya and Navodaya Vidyalayas, and some states accept it too. A state TET counts for that state's government schools.

A TET pass certificate is valid for life (NCTE, 2021). The usual pass mark is 60%, with relaxation for reserved categories as each state decides.
